Goshamahal MLA and controversial Telangana leader T Raja Singh has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressing strong dissent over the reported appointment of N Ramchander Rao as the party’s next Telangana state president.
In a letter addressed to Union Minister and current state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy, Raja Singh criticized the central leadership’s decision, which he claimed had disappointed not only him but also “lakhs of Karyakartas, leaders, and voters” who had stood by the party. His resignation follows media reports that the BJP high command has cleared Ramchander Rao’s name for the top state post, with no other contenders likely.
Ramchander Rao, a High Court advocate and former member of the Telangana Legislative Council, has long been associated with the BJP through its youth and legal wings. He has previously served as the party’s Hyderabad unit chief.
Raja Singh, known for his inflammatory speeches and hardline Hindutva stance, wrote that the leadership change comes at a crucial time—when the BJP stands on the brink of forming its first government in Telangana.
“This decision has come as a shock,” he wrote, “At a time when the BJP has its best chance to take power in Telangana, such a choice raises serious questions about the direction we are heading.”
He alleged that certain individuals were manipulating the decision-making process for personal gain, sidelining grassroots workers and long-time loyalists. “This not only undermines their sacrifices but risks pushing the party into setbacks that could have been avoided,” he added.
Raja Singh insisted that his resignation was not driven by personal ambition. “I have been a dedicated Karyakarta, elected three times with the people’s blessings and the party’s support. But today, I cannot stay silent or pretend everything is fine. This is about the pain and frustration of countless loyal party workers who feel unheard and ignored.” “With a heavy heart, I resign from the primary membership of the BJP,” he concluded. “While I am stepping away from the party, I remain committed to the ideology of Hindutva and to serving the people of Goshamahal. I will continue to raise my voice for the Hindu community, now with even greater strength.”
