Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi has dismissed recent allegations of sexual exploitation made against him on social media. A user on X.com accused the actor of offering money in exchange for inappropriate favors, including so-called “caravan favours.” The posts, which created a brief stir online, were taken down within hours of being shared.
Speaking in a recent interview, Vijay Sethupathi strongly denied the accusations and described them as completely baseless. He said the claims appeared to be part of a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation.
“Anyone who knows me even remotely will laugh at this. I know who I am. This kind of filthy accusation does not affect me. My family and close friends were disturbed, but I told them to let it go. This woman clearly did this to get attention. Let her enjoy her few minutes of fame,” the actor said.
Vijay Sethupathi also revealed that he has lodged a complaint with the cybercrime authorities regarding the incident. He stated that such smear campaigns have been targeted at him in the past as well and that they do not affect him anymore.
“I have been the target of whisper campaigns for the past seven years. None of that has ever shaken me. This will not either,” he added.
The actor also questioned the timing of the accusations, suggesting that the posts may have been shared in response to the growing success of his latest film.
“My new film is performing well. Perhaps some people who cannot digest that want to bring me down. They think it will affect the film. It does not work that way. These days, anyone with a social media account can post anything about anyone without consequences,” he said.
The allegations were posted by an X.com user named Ramya Mohan, who claimed that Vijay had sexually exploited a woman known to her. One of her posts alleged, “Vijay Sethupathi offered two lakh rupees for ‘caravan favours,’ fifty thousand for ‘drives,’ and pretends to be a saint on social media.”
Despite the serious nature of the claims, there has been no official follow-up from the accuser after the posts were deleted.
Vijay Sethupathi, a recipient of the National Film Award, is one of the most respected actors in Tamil cinema. He has also made a mark in Hindi films, including Jawan with Shah Rukh Khan and Merry Christmas alongside Katrina Kaif. His latest release “Sir Madam” (Telugu dub) features him opposite Nithya Menen.
Currently, the actor is filming a Telugu project directed by Puri Jagannadh. This marks his first time playing a lead role in a straight Telugu film. He is reportedly playing the role of a beggar, with Tabu also featuring in a key part.
