Speculation grows around Vikram’s role in SS Rajamouli’s SSMB29

Tollywood is abuzz once again as fresh rumors suggest that Tamil superstar Chiyaan Vikram may be joining SS Rajamouli’s much-anticipated action-adventure epic SSMB29, which stars Mahesh Babu in the lead.

The speculation, which first surfaced in August 2024, has gained renewed momentum following reports that Rajamouli has approached Vikram for a significant role.

The yet-to-be-titled SSMB29, already creating waves with its confirmed cast of Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is touted as one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious and high-budgeted projects.

Vikram’s role in jungle adventure

According to industry buzz, Vikram is being considered for a key character who allies with Mahesh Babu’s protagonist in a perilous jungle environment, while Prithviraj Sukumaran is set to portray the primary antagonist. The film’s narrative is said to blend mythological elements with a high-stakes, Indiana Jones-style adventure across locations like Kashi and African rainforests.

However, Vikram addressed the rumors during a promotional event for his film Thangalaan in Hyderabad on August 5, 2024. He stated that while he and Rajamouli have long expressed interest in collaborating, he had not been formally approached for SSMB29 at that time.

Adding intrigue, Vikram’s denial mirrors that of Prithviraj Sukumaran, who initially dismissed rumors of his involvement—only to later confirm his role in the film, fueling speculation that Vikram may also be onboard but maintaining confidentiality.

Big project

Backed by producer KL Narayana under Sri Durga Arts, SSMB29 reportedly carries a staggering budget of Rs 1000 crore. The film began shooting in January 2025 and is slated for a grand summer 2027 release. With a storyline traversing continents and rooted in Indian mythology, the project represents a bold cinematic vision from Rajamouli, following the global success of RRR. As anticipation continues to mount, the potential of seeing Chiyaan Vikram share the screen with Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra under Rajamouli’s direction has ignited widespread excitement. An official confirmation from the production team remains highly anticipated.
