Kannada groups outraged over Kamal Haasan’s remark

Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has stirred controversy in Karnataka with his recent statement that “Kannada was born out of Tamil,” made during the audio launch of his upcoming film “Thug Life.”
The remark, seen by many as undermining Kannada’s independent linguistic heritage, has triggered strong backlash from pro-Kannada groups, political figures, and netizens across the state.

Protests erupt across Karnataka

The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), a leading pro-Kannada organization, spearheaded protests outside a cinema hall in Belagavi screening Haasan’s films. Activists also tore down Thug Life posters in Bengaluru and other cities, accusing Haasan of showing disregard for Kannada culture and history.

KRV president Praveen Shetty demanded an unconditional public apology, warning of intensified protests and a statewide boycott of Haasan’s films if the issue is not addressed.
