Nandamuri Balakrishna might join the cast of the highly anticipated Tamil action-comedy sequel Jailer 2, starring Superstar Rajinikanth. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, the film has generated immense buzz with Balakrishna’s inclusion, which is set to amplify its pan-Indian appeal.
According to sources close to the production, Balakrishna will play a powerful cameo role, designed to be more substantial than a typical guest appearance.
“Balayya loved the role Nelson pitched, and it’s tailored to make a significant impact,” the source revealed to Hindustan Times. The role, reportedly an 8-10-minute sequence, fulfills Nelson’s long-standing vision of casting Balakrishna, who was initially considered for the first “Jailer” but couldn’t be accommodated due to script constraints.
The announcement has sparked excitement among fans, with social media abuzz about the prospect of seeing Balakrishna share the screen with Rajinikanth.
Nelson, who previously expressed regret over not including Balakrishna in Jailer (2023), has crafted a role that promises to resonate with audiences, potentially as a formidable character like a deadly police officer, as hinted in earlier discussions.
Jailer 2, which began shooting in Chennai on March 9, 2025, features returning cast members including Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa Menon, alongside new additions like S.J. Suryah. The film, with music by Anirudh Ravichander, will release in 2026.
Balakrishna’s cameo is expected to elevate the sequel’s multi-regional draw, much like the impactful appearances of Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar in the original, which grossed over Rs 650 crore worldwide.
