Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Jubilee Hills, Maganti Gopinath, passed away early Sunday morning at the age of 63 following a heart attack.

The three-time legislator had been admitted to AIG Hospitals in Gachibowli on June 5 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest. Despite intensive care, his condition worsened, and he passed away at 5:45 AM, hospital authorities confirmed.

From TDP to BRS

Gopinath, a prominent figure in Telangana politics, began his career with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1983, serving as president of its youth wing, Telugu Yuvatha. He later joined the BRS and successfully represented Jubilee Hills in the 2014, 2018, and 2023 assembly elections. His victory in 2023, defeating Congress candidate Mohammad Azharuddin, was particularly noteworthy and further cemented his standing as a strong political leader.

Renowned for his dedication to public service, Gopinath earned widespread admiration for his contributions to the development of Jubilee Hills. His sudden demise has left a significant void in Telangana’s political landscape. BRS leaders, including Working President K.T. Rama Rao — who cut short a US trip to return to Hyderabad — expressed deep grief and condolences. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy also mourned the loss, offering prayers for Gopinath’s soul and extending sympathies to his family.

Gopinath had been dealing with ongoing health issues, including kidney-related ailments, over the past year. His condition deteriorated further following the recent heart attack, which led to hospitalization and ventilator support.

Tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum, with leaders highlighting Gopinath’s unwavering commitment to his constituents and his impactful tenure as an MLA. The Telangana Assembly and the BRS have lost a seasoned leader, and his legacy in Jubilee Hills is expected to endure.
