Delhi ranks among top 10 airports in the world

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in New Delhi has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 9th position in the Airports Council International (ACI) World’s preliminary rankings for 2024.

Handling a record 77 million passengers, IGI has surpassed major global hubs like Paris Charles de Gaulle and Singapore Changi.

This accomplishment marks a steady ascent for IGI, which has climbed from 17th place in 2019 to 13th in 2021, 10th in 2023, and now 9th in 2024. The airport’s growth is attributed to significant infrastructure enhancements, including expanded terminal capacities, runway upgrades, and the adoption of advanced technologies such as facial recognition and automated baggage handling systems.

As the sole Indian airport in ACI’s global top 10 list, IGI’s achievement reflects the robust recovery and expansion of India’s aviation sector post-pandemic. With ongoing developments, including the completion of Terminal 1’s expansion and the operationalization of a fourth runway, IGI is poised to enhance its capacity further.
