Buzz: Allu Arjun to don the cape as Shaktimaan?

Speculations are that Allu Arjun may step into the iconic role of Shaktimaan, India’s beloved superhero from the 90s TV series. Reports and social media chatter suggest that Arjun is in talks to lead a high-profile cinematic reboot, helmed by acclaimed Malayalam director Basil Joseph, known for Minnal Murali.

While no official confirmation has been made, the prospect of Arjun as Shaktimaan has sent fans into a frenzy.

Shaktimaaan’s reboot

The original Shaktimaan, starring Mukesh Khanna, was a cultural phenomenon, captivating audiences with its blend of Indian mythology, superhero action, and moral lessons. In 2022, Sony Pictures announced plans to adapt the series into a feature film trilogy, initially sparking rumors of Ranveer Singh taking the lead role. However, recent reports indicate that Allu Arjun is now the frontrunner, with Sony Pictures backing the project alongside Geetha Arts, Arjun’s family production house.

Sources claim the film aims to retain the nostalgic essence of the TV series while leveraging cutting-edge VFX and a modern narrative, positioning it as a pan-India spectacle.

Adding fuel to the speculation, Mukesh Khanna, the original Shaktimaan, has publicly endorsed Arjun for the role. In a December 2024 YouTube video reviewing Pushpa 2, Khanna praised Arjun’s screen presence, stating, “I am not committing to anything, but I think he can be Shaktimaan. He has good looks, height, and the personality to pull it off.”

Ambitious project

The project’s scope is ambitious, with reports of two international studios collaborating with Geetha Arts and stakeholders from four industries backing it. If Arjun signs on, the film could mark his 23rd or 24th project, further cementing his pan-India appeal post-Pushpa.

Director Basil Joseph’s track record with Minnal Murali, a grounded yet thrilling superhero tale, has fans optimistic about his ability to reimagine Shaktimaan for a new generation.

Despite the hype, the lack of official confirmation keeps the news in the realm of speculation. Arjun is currently focused on his next film with director Atlee, co-starring Deepika Padukone, set for a 2027 release.
