Harish Rao and KTR play strategic moves

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao has categorically dismissed speculation about internal discord within the party, asserting his unwavering loyalty to BRS president and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).

Addressing growing chatter around party leadership dynamics, Rao said, “My leader is KCR, and I follow whatever KCR says.”

His remarks come in the wake of persistent social media speculation and opposition-driven narratives, particularly from the Congress party, suggesting a rift between Rao and KCR’s son, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), over succession plans.

Speculation intensifies

Rumors of internal tensions intensified after the BRS silver jubilee event on April 27 in Hanamkonda, where event promotions prominently featured KCR and KTR, sparking speculation about KTR’s elevation as the party’s future leader.

Rao, however, strongly refuted such claims: “There are no differences within the BRS. I have been a disciplined worker of this party for 25 years. If KTR is entrusted with leadership responsibilities, I will fully support him and abide by KCR’s decision.”

Firm stand against defection rumors

Rao also addressed speculation about him switching parties, calling such reports “fake and malicious propaganda” being spread by Congress supporters and certain social media IT cells.

Using the opportunity to hit back at the ruling Congress in Telangana, Rao criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s government for failing to address key issues faced by farmers, especially the delay in paddy procurement.

Strategic move

Political analysts view Harish Rao’s strong public reaffirmation of support for both KCR and KTR as a strategic attempt to consolidate the party’s base and restore internal morale. BRS has been grappling with setbacks following its losses in the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

A senior BRS leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that Rao’s statement may serve to prepare the cadre for a possible leadership transition to KTR while reinforcing party unity.
