ED charge sheet names Revanth Reddy, CM is tight-lipped

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has chosen to remain silent on serious allegations stemming from the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) recent chargesheet in the National Herald case—silence that is drawing increasing political scrutiny.

Filed on April 9, 2025, the ED’s chargesheet names Revanth Reddy, alongside senior Congress leaders such as the late Ahmed Patel and Pawan Bansal, in connection with financial activities involving Young Indian (YI) and Associated Journals Limited (AJL) between 2019 and 2022.

While Reddy is not listed as an accused, the ED alleges that he played a role in coercing individuals to make donations under the pretext of political consequences or rewards. The agency claims that contributions, including one totaling Rs 80 lakh allegedly facilitated by Revanth Reddy, were not made voluntarily but were tied to implied political favors.

BRS and BJP seize the moment

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has wasted no time in launching an offensive. BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) took to social media, branding Telangana as an “ATM for Scamgress” and accusing the Congress of turning the state into a hub for corruption.

KTR demanded to know whether the NDA government would summon Revanth for questioning or “pardon” him as he claimed happened in previous alleged scams like the Amrut Scam and RR Tax scandal.

KTR further alleged that Revanth used promises of party posts to entice donors, calling it evidence of a “corruption empire” operating under the Congress banner. BRS spokespersons, including Krishank Manne, claimed that Revanth’s refusal to address the matter publicly is part of a broader strategy to distract from mounting allegations.

Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G. Kishan Reddy also joined the chorus, criticizing the Congress for allegedly misusing funds donated in the name of the National Herald, an institution founded during India’s freedom movement, for private political gain.

Revanth Reddy remains tight-lipped

Congress leaders have responded by dismissing the ED’s chargesheet as a politically motivated attack orchestrated by the NDA. Despite the party’s defiance, Revanth Reddy’s continued silence has drawn attention.

For now, Revanth’s silence continues to dominate the headlines, with Telangana’s political rivals demanding clarity and accountability.
