Damodararaja Narasimha: Nalgonda leaders using helicopters as Taxis

Telangana Health Minister and senior Congress leader Damodara Raja Narasimha triggered a political storm by accusing party leaders from Nalgonda of excessively using helicopters for travel, indirectly targeting his cabinet colleague, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.

The remarks, made during a public event in Sangareddy, have sparked speculation of internal rifts within the Congress-led Telangana government.

Personal taxis

Narasimha, a prominent Dalit leader and Andole MLA, took a veiled dig at the “extravagant” travel habits of certain leaders, stating, “Some people from Nalgonda seem to think helicopters are their personal taxis. Whether it’s touring or buying them, it’s always them. I haven’t boarded a helicopter even once in my tenure.”

Though he did not name anyone directly, political circles interpreted the comments as aimed at Komatireddy, known for his frequent helicopter tours across the state.

Congress insiders suggest Narasimha’s remarks reflect underlying tensions over regional dominance within the party, particularly between leaders from North Telangana and those from Nalgonda and other southern districts.

Some party members urged the leadership to address the issue to prevent further escalation.

Komatireddy dismisses allegations

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, when reached for comment, dismissed the allegations, stating, “My focus is on developing Telangana’s infrastructure, not petty politics. Helicopters are used only when necessary for official work.”

The controversy comes at a time when the Congress government is under scrutiny for its financial management, with opposition parties alleging mismanagement of state funds. Analysts believe Narasimha’s comments could fuel further debates on governance and party unity ahead of upcoming local body elections.
