BRS maintains silence as Kavitha’s alleged letter to KCR

A purported six-page letter from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha to her father and party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has ignited a political firestorm in Telangana, with the BRS leadership maintaining an unusual silence on the matter.

The letter, which surfaced on Thursday, May 22, 2025, while Kavitha was in the United States attending her son’s graduation, critiques KCR’s recent political approach and raises concerns about the party’s direction, particularly its perceived soft stance toward the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Total silence

Neither Kavitha nor the BRS leadership, including KCR, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), or T. Harish Rao, have issued an official statement, fueling speculation about internal rifts within the party.

The letter, dated May 2, 2025, and leaked 20 days later, evaluates KCR’s speech at the BRS’s Silver Jubilee public meeting held on April 27 in Elkathurthy, Hanumakonda district. In the handwritten note, addressed informally to “Daddy,” Kavitha praises aspects of the speech, such as KCR’s references to “Operation Kagaar,” his moment of silence for the Pahalgam terror.

However, it reportedly criticizes KCR for dedicating only “two minutes” to criticizing the BJP, failing to address critical issues like the Waqf Amendment Act, 42% BC reservations, and SC categorization, and not being accessible to party workers. Kavitha also allegedly expressed concern over the BRS’s decision to skip recent MLC elections, which she claims has sparked rumors of a potential BRS-BJP alliance, a sensitive topic given her own arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Delhi liquor policy case, which she attributes to BJP pressure.

Political analysts suggest the silence could be a strategic move by the BRS to avoid internal rifts becoming public fodder, especially as the party navigates a challenging phase after losing power in 2023.

As the controversy unfolds, all eyes are on whether Kavitha or KCR will break their silence to clarify the letter’s authenticity or address its implications.
