BRS leaders and cadre urge KCR to expel Kavitha

Tensions are running high within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) as a growing number of party leaders and grassroots workers are reportedly urging party president and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) to expel his daughter, MLC K. Kavitha, from the party.

The demand follows Kavitha’s recent public criticism of the party’s leadership and allegations of internal conspiracies, which have deepened existing rifts within the organization.

Kavitha, a prominent BRS leader, ignited controversy with a leaked letter addressed to KCR, dated May 2, 2025. In the letter, she criticized the party’s perceived leniency toward the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and questioned the leadership’s inaction on critical issues. She also alleged that attempts were made to merge BRS with the BJP while she was incarcerated last year in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

Her remarks—seen as veiled attacks on her brother and BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR)—have fueled speculation of a power struggle within the Kalvakuntla family.

Sources within the party indicate that several BRS leaders and cadre are frustrated with Kavitha’s public outbursts, accusing her of sowing division at a time when the party is already facing challenges.

Show-cause notice and then expulsion

The call for her expulsion has gained momentum after reports emerged suggesting that KCR is considering issuing a show-cause notice to Kavitha for breaching party discipline by making internal matters public.

While KCR has so far remained silent, insiders say he is under growing pressure to act decisively and prevent further unrest. However, some within the party caution that expelling Kavitha could further alienate her supporters and deepen the internal schism.

In her defense, Kavitha has reaffirmed her loyalty to KCR and the BRS, stating that her criticisms were intended to strengthen the party, not weaken it.

Kavitha is true covert?

So far, the BRS leadership has made no official statement regarding the demands for Kavitha’s expulsion. Party insiders suggest that Kavitha is a burden to the party. KTR is the real strength to the party and he is the future.

With KTR and Harish Rao on same page, Kavitha is seen as covert within the party working either for BJP or Congress.

As the situation continues to evolve, all eyes remain on KCR—will he choose reconciliation or take the unprecedented step of expelling his daughter from the party he founded?
