Rammohan Naidu: BRS did nothing for Warangal airport

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu pledged to render the Warangal (Mamnoor) Airport in Telangana operational within two and a half years. Rammohan Naidu declared that the central government has approved the development of Mamnoor Airport, characterizing it as a “brownfield” project intended to rehabilitate an existing airstrip.

He articulated his personal gratification, observing that the revitalization of Warangal Airport is occurring during his tenure as Civil Aviation Minister, and emphasized its capacity to establish Warangal as a significant regional center. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) would also construct the airport within two and a half years.

The project necessitates an extra 280 acres of land in addition to the current 696 acres, and Naidu has implored the state to accelerate this process to facilitate timely building commencement. Naidu asserted that the airport will enhance commerce, tourism, and local employment in Warangal. He perceives it as a transformative factor for Telangana.

Critiques of the former administration

He criticized the former state administration (BRS), stating that KCR’s insufficient cooperation on land acquisition hindered progress. He said that the current state administration and himself worked together to overcome problems. One big achievement was getting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the GMR Group, which runs Hyderabad’s airport and has exclusive rights within a 150-km radius until 2033. This NOC pertains exclusively to Warangal and is not applicable to other prospective airport projects in the area.
