Did Pawan Kalyan delete old tweets?

Pawan Kalyan, the actor-turned-politician and Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has once again stirred curiosity among his followers and political observers by reportedly deleting a series of his old tweets from the social media platform X.

Reports suggest that Kalyan’s team selectively removed tweets posted between March and August 2019, a period marked by his vocal criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the Andhra Pradesh elections. This move comes amid rumors of a strengthening alliance between Jana Sena and the BJP, with some analysts pointing to it as an attempt to erase past friction and align with new political realities. Although his X account still retains some older posts from 2015, the targeted deletion of election-related content has sparked significant scrutiny.

Language tweets

During 2017 and 2019, he posted many messages on social media, accusing the central BJP leadership of promoting Hindi at the cost of other native languages. He even claimed Hindi imposition will boomerang. Pawan Kalyan’s tweets against Hindi imposition by BJP and his posts about the Unitedited States of South India are currently being widely promoted by DMK and other parties.

Onthe other hand, the YSRCYSRC party’s social media team is posting these tweets and claimed that the JanaJana Sena team is removing them in the wake of Pawan Kalyan’s current stancee on the the pro-Hindi policy.

Damage control

Pawan Kalyan, in his recent speech on the formation day of the Jana Sena party, attacked Tamil Nadu’s ruling party, DMK, for opposing the National Education Policy (NEP) and denying their state’s people the ability to learn Hindi. He claimed that the Tamils oppose Hindi but dub their movies in Hindi and profit money from it.

Soon after he made such a statement, DMK, YSRCP, and others dug up Pawan Kalyan’s old tweets where he criticized the BJP government for imposing Hindi in South India. Sensing the damage, Pawan Kalyan issued “clarification tweets” to address the situation. And his party started deleting those old tweets.

This is not the first time

This isn’t the first time Kalyan has taken such a step.

In late 2019, following a disappointing electoral performance, he wiped several posts, a decision then linked to a potential merger or truce with the BJP. Sources close to the leader suggest that the latest cleanup might be tied to his current role in the Andhra Pradesh government alongside Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, as well as his efforts to maintain harmony within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition.

Fans and critics alike took to X to voice their reactions. Some supporters hailed it as a pragmatic move to focus on governance over past rivalries, while detractors accused him of inconsistency, questioning why he would distance himself from earlier stances that resonated with his base.

“Pawan Kalyan is deleting old tweets again—probably to keep the BJP happy. Politics over principles?” one user posted, reflecting a sentiment echoed across social media.

The timing of the deletions, just months after his coalition’s victory in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh elections, adds another layer of intrigue. Political analysts suggest it could be part of a broader image overhaul as Kalyan balances his dual roles as a populist leader and a key NDA figure.
