Kadambari Jethwani Case: Former Intelligence chief Anjaneyulu arrested

Senior IPS officer and former Andhra Pradesh Intelligence Chief PSR Anjaneyulu was arrested by the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Hyderabad on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The arrest is linked to the alleged illegal arrest and harassment of Mumbai-based actor and model Kadambari Jethwani.

Anjaneyulu, a 1992-batch IPS officer, was taken into custody in Hyderabad and is being transported to Andhra Pradesh for further questioning.

The arrest follows a prolonged investigation into accusations that Anjaneyulu, along with two other senior IPS officers—former Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata and former Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Gunni—orchestrated the wrongful arrest of Jethwani in February 2024.

The three officers were suspended in September 2024 for procedural lapses, misconduct, and abuse of authority after an inquiry revealed they acted without proper investigation or a registered FIR.

The case stems from a complaint filed by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader K.V.R. Vidyasagar, who accused Jethwani of forgery and extortion. Jethwani alleged that Anjaneyulu, then Director General of Police (Intelligence), directed her arrest on January 31, 2024, before a FIR was officially lodged on February 2, 2024.

Controversial police officer

The Andhra Pradesh High Court had previously questioned the CID’s delay in arresting Anjaneyulu, noting that he had not sought anticipatory bail and was expected to be available for investigation as per his suspension orders. The court’s scrutiny intensified pressure on authorities to act, culminating in Tuesday’s arrest.

Anjaneyulu’s tenure as Intelligence Chief under the YSRCP government was marked by controversies, including allegations of phone tapping and filing false cases against political opponents, such as former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Who is Kadambari Jethwani?

Kadambari Jethwani is a Mumbai based actress. She mostly appeared in Hindi and Gujarati movies.She filed a rape compliant against a Mumbai-based businessman. She claimed the arrest by AP police during YS Jagan regime was politically motivated, aimed at pressuring her to withdraw rape case she had filed in Mumbai. Jethwani and her family were detained for over 40 days, facing what she described as humiliation and unlawful treatment.
