India lifts Champions Trophy 2025

India has reaffirmed its prominence in cricket history by securing the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, triumphing against New Zealand in an exhilarating final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 9, 2025. This triumph signifies India’s third Champions Trophy, establishing them as the most successful team in the tournament’s history, exceeding Australia’s two victories.

The final exemplified India’s perseverance and expertise. New Zealand recorded a formidable 251/7 in 50 overs, with Daryl Mitchell (63) and Michael Bracewell (53 not out) spearheading their batting performance. The spinners of India, particularly Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/45), effectively restrained the New Zealanders.

India successfully pursued a target of 252; they concluded at 254/6 with four wickets remaining and one over to spare after 49 overs.

Captain Rohit Sharma spearheaded the team with a decisive 76, collecting the Man of the Match accolade. Significant contributions were made by Shreyas Iyer (48), KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, whose poise under duress secured the victory—Jadeja striking the decisive boundary in the 49th over.

This victory marked India’s fifth participation in a Champions Trophy final (2000, 2002, 2013, 2017, and 2025), demonstrating their consistency in the competition.

The 2025 victory, orchestrated by Rohit Sharma, enhances this history, positioning him as the second Indian captain, following Dhoni, to secure multiple ICC titles (he also guided India to the 2024 T20 World Cup). Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma uniquely established themselves as the sole Indian players to secure four ICC events, exceeding Dhoni’s tally of three.
