Samantha Ruth Prabhu, stepping into her new role as a producer, has voiced her delight with the warm reception of her debut production, Subham, despite its underwhelming box office performance.
The Telugu horror-comedy, released on May 9 under her banner Tralala Moving Pictures, has garnered positive reviews and audience appreciation, even as collections remain modest.
Samantha also revealed that a lucrative OTT deal has ensured the film’s financial success, securing profits for her maiden venture.
Subham, directed by Praveen Kandregula and featuring a fresh ensemble cast including Harshith Reddy, Shriya Kontham, and Gavireddy Srinivas, opened to a modest Rs 62 lakhs worldwide on its first day, with a total India net collection of Rs 1.31 crore by day two.
Despite the dip in earnings—day two saw ₹56 lakhs—the film has been praised for its quirky storyline and nostalgic coastal setting in Bheemili.
Speaking at a media interaction in Hyderabad, Samantha expressed her satisfaction with the film’s reception. “As a producer, I’m thrilled with how Subham has been received. The love from audiences and the positive reviews mean the world to me. Box office numbers are just one part of the journey. The film has connected with viewers, and that’s what matters most,” she said.
She highlighted the film’s unique blend of horror, comedy, and gender commentary, noting, “We set out to create something fresh and meaningful, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved.”
Samantha also shared that Subham has turned a profit, thanks to a strategic OTT deal with Zee5, which acquired the digital and satellite rights for a substantial sum.
The actress-turned-producer, who also plays a hilarious cameo as Maaya Maata in the film, emphasized her commitment to nurturing new talent.
As Samantha juggles multiple projects, including her web series “Rakht Brahmand: The Bloody Kingdom” and new film “Maa Inti Bangaram”, her focus remains on creating meaningful cinema.
