Veteran South Indian actress Meena, celebrated for her iconic roles in films like Drishyam and numerous 1990s blockbusters, is at the center of political speculation following reports of her potential affiliation with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The buzz intensified after her recent meeting with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in Delhi, prompting discussions about her possible entry into politics ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Meena, aged 48, shared an Instagram post about her meeting with the Vice President, captioning it, “It was an honor to meet you, sir. Learnt so much from you which I believe will help me lead my future with confidence.”

This interaction, coupled with her attendance at a Pongal celebration hosted by Union Minister of State L. Murugan earlier this year, has fueled rumors of her growing proximity to the BJP.

BJP’s strategy

The BJP, keen on expanding its footprint in Tamil Nadu, has a history of attracting film personalities to bolster its appeal, with actress Khushbu Sundar already a prominent member. Political observers note that Meena’s potential entry aligns with the party’s strategy to leverage star power in a state where cinema and politics are deeply intertwined. However, Meena has not publicly confirmed any political ambitions, and earlier this year, she denied similar rumors following the Pongal event.

While some reports claim she may meet senior BJP leaders soon, others caution that these speculations remain unverified. Social media is abuzz with mixed reactions—some fans express excitement over her potential political debut, while others urge her to focus on her acting career.

As the 2026 elections approach, the BJP’s efforts to strengthen its Tamil Nadu cadre continue, and Meena’s name remains a focal point of intrigue. Neither the actress nor the BJP has issued an official statement, leaving room for further speculation about her political future.
