Renowned music composer Devi Sri Prasad (DSP), the mastermind behind the chart-topping track “Oo Antava” from the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise, has accused Turkish pop singer Atiye of copying his composition in her song Anlayana, released seven months ago.

DSP, expressing both disappointment and pride, revealed he is considering legal action due to the striking similarities between the two tracks, which he described as a “plain copy.”

Oo Antava song

The sensational Oo Antava, featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Allu Arjun, became a cultural phenomenon upon its release, with its infectious beats and iconic hook step going viral globally.

DSP, speaking at a recent event, stated in Telugu, “Many people enjoyed ‘Oo Antava’ in various ways, but now I’ve come to know it has been copied into Turkish. There are many similarities in Atiye’s version. One has to call it a plain copy.”

He added, “I’m thinking about filing a case against them, but I’m also proud—this shows the international appeal of our music.”

The controversy has sparked widespread discussion, with fans flooding the comments section of Anlayana’s music video, pointing out its resemblance to DSP’s original work. While some celebrate the global reach of Telugu music, others support DSP’s potential legal move, citing the lack of credit or authorization for the alleged use.

Global popularity

This isn’t the first time Oo Antava has made international waves. Earlier this year, actor Karthi shared an anecdote about hearing a remixed version of the song in a Turkish club, highlighting its global popularity. However, DSP’s current stance underscores the issue of artistic ownership, as he navigates the complexities of international copyright laws to protect his work.

As the debate over plagiarism continues, the incident reaffirms the far-reaching influence of Pushpa and DSP’s music, while raising questions about creative integrity across borders.
