The blockbuster success meet for Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa on June 21 in Hyderabad has taken an unexpected turn, with social media abuzz over unverified claims that megastar Chiranjeevi attended the event in an inebriated state.

The rumors, sparked by a viral video clip and posts on social media, have ignited heated speculation about the veteran actor’s demeanor during the star-studded celebration, attended by the film’s cast, including Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna.

The controversy began when a short video from the event surfaced online, showing Chiranjeevi, who was the chief guest, delivering a speech praising Kuberaa’s gripping narrative and Kammula’s direction. Some netizens pointed to his slightly slurred speech, animated gestures, and a moment where he appeared to stumble while walking offstage as evidence of intoxication.

Speculation intensified on platforms like r/TollywoodMovies, where users analyzed the clip frame-by-frame, with one Redditor commenting, “His eyes looked glassy, and he was overly loud. Not saying he was drunk, but something was off.”

Others noted that Chiranjeevi, known for his disciplined lifestyle, has rarely been linked to such controversies, leading to divided opinions. A fan defended him, writing, “He’s 70 and was excited for a great film. People are reading too much into a senior actor’s energy!”

Unusual and spirited behaviour

The event, held at a luxury hotel in Banjara Hills, was a high-profile affair, with Chiranjeevi lauding Dhanush’s performance as Deva and Nagarjuna’s nuanced role as Deepak. However, the focus shifted online when a few attendees allegedly whispered about Chiranjeevi’s “unusual” behavior, including an extended hug with Kammula and a playful banter with Rashmika that some deemed “overly jovial.”
