Singer Mangli on birthday bash controversy and police raid

Popular Telugu folk and playback singer Mangli (Satyavathi Rathod) has responded to the controversy surrounding her birthday celebration at Tripura Resort in Chevella, Hyderabad, which was raided by Cyberabad police on the night of June 10, 2025. The raid, prompted by a tip-off, led to legal action for alleged violations involving unauthorized liquor, sound system usage, and suspected drug consumption.

Mangli’s statement

In a video statement released Wednesday evening, Mangli addressed the incident, clarifying that the party was a small, informal gathering organized at the request of her parents, attended by close friends and family, including Telugu industry personalities like Rachcha Ravi, Divi Vadthya, Kasarla Shyam, and Indravathi Chauhan.

Mangli admitted to serving liquor and using a DJ sound system without proper permissions, citing unawareness of the required approvals.

“I hosted a small party for friends and relatives. I didn’t know that permission was required for serving liquor and using DJ sound. Had I known, I would’ve taken the necessary approvals from the police,” she stated.

However, she strongly denied allegations of drug use, asserting that only local liquor was served and no banned substances were present. Addressing reports of one attendee, Damodar Reddy, testing positive for marijuana.

Mangli clarified: “The police found no drugs at the venue. That individual might have used substances elsewhere before attending. Linking it to my event is unfair,” she said, emphasizing her full cooperation with the investigation and urging the public not to spread baseless rumors.

Police investigation

The Cyberabad Police, along with the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau, conducted the raid around 2 a.m. after receiving complaints about loud music and suspicious activity. Authorities seized foreign liquor and booked Mangli, her manager Dune Megharaj, the resort’s assistant general manager M. Shiva Rama Krishna, and Damodar Reddy under various charges including the Excise Act, NDPS Act, and Sound Pollution Control regulations.

While no narcotics were recovered on-site, drug tests were conducted on 48 attendees. Conflicting reports suggest either one or nine people tested positive for marijuana. Police have issued notices to those involved and are working to trace the source of the alleged drug use.

Mangli, best known for chartbusters like “Ramuloo Ramulaa”, affirmed that she will continue to cooperate with authorities as the investigation progresses.
