Pawan Kalyan urges intensified surveillance on sleeper cells

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has called for heightened security measures across the state, urging authorities to intensify surveillance along the coastline and monitor sleeper cells in light of growing national security concerns.

In formal letters addressed to Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand and Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta, Kalyan emphasized the urgent need for vigilance following recent intelligence alerts, particularly those tied to the nationwide Operation Sindoor.

The trigger for his call was the recent arrest of a youth from Vizianagaram district, allegedly linked to ISIS and accused of planning terror attacks.

“The arrest of a young man in Vizianagaram by intelligence agencies for links with IS and for plotting blasts necessitates stringent action,” Kalyan wrote, urging law enforcement to prioritize both national security and public safety.

He highlighted the strategic vulnerability of Andhra Pradesh’s 974-kilometer coastline, drawing attention to historical threats such as the 1971 attempt by the Pakistani submarine PNS Ghazi to approach Visakhapatnam, the base of the Eastern Naval Command. He called for increased security in coastal districts—including North Andhra, Godavari, and Manyam—to prevent the movement of terrorist sympathizers, illegal immigrants, and Rohingyas.

“Special attention is needed on coastal surveillance and security to avert any untoward incidents,” Pawan Kalyan stated.

Kalyan also voiced concern about reports suggesting the presence of Rohingyas in regions like Guntur, allegedly holding documents such as Aadhaar cards, ration cards, and voter IDs.
