PM Modi calls for action on Obesity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again turned the nation’s attention towards a pressing health concern—rising obesity, especially among children and young adults.

In his latest episode of the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio program, Modi emphasized the alarming increase in obesity rates and its long-term health implications. To tackle this issue, he proposed a nationwide initiative to reduce edible oil consumption by 10%, urging citizens to take conscious steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

The Growing Concern of Obesity in India

Obesity has been on the rise in India, fuelled by sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy eating habits, and excessive consumption of processed and high-fat foods. According to health experts, this trend has resulted in a spike in non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart-related ailments. Children and young adults are particularly vulnerable, as junk food consumption and lack of physical activity become increasingly prevalent in urban and even rural settings.
