Revanth Reddy defends Miss World event

The Telangana government is set to host the Miss World Pageant, but the decision has sparked criticism over its apparent double standards. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who had earlier condemned the previous government’s Formula E Race event and even filed a case against then-minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) for alleged misuse of funds, is now defending the beauty pageant.

Political U-turn exposed

Critics, especially on social media, have called out the Congress government for its contradictory stance. Many argue that the case against KTR was politically motivated, as the same justifications used for the car race—boosting tourism and revenue—are now being echoed by the current administration for the Miss World event.

Defending the pageant, Revanth Reddy highlighted its potential economic benefits.

“Representatives from 140 countries will stay in Telangana for over a month, visiting various tourist destinations. This is a major opportunity, and we will extend hospitality to over 3,000 international media representatives,” he said during an event at Ravindra Bharathi on Thursday.

He further argued that Hyderabad would gain global recognition, attracting visitors and generating hundreds of crores in revenue for hotels, transportation, and other industries, ultimately benefiting the state government.

Despite the CM’s claims, critics see this as a weak attempt to justify the event while having previously opposed similar initiatives. The controversy highlights the shifting political narratives and raises questions about the sincerity of the government’s arguments.

“In the guise of the Formula-E race, government money was misused and accordingly a case was registered. There is no similarity between you and me,” Revanth Reddy claimed.
